Endurance: Sports Car Racing’s Biggest Challenge

It’s survival of the fittest … both physically and mentally

Endurance is synonymous with sports car racing and the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón. It’s the ultimate test of both man and machine with both being pushed to their limits. The third round of the 2010 season is at the demanding Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, which is even tougher when the race is six hours in length – taking competitors from daylight to dusk and then darkness.

“It’s incredibly tough physically but almost mentally,” said Muscle Milk Team CytoSport’s Sascha Maassen. “Sometimes I’ve had races where I’ve been very hot and after the first two hours, I’ll think ‘I can’t do another stint. It’s impossible.’”

“It’s experience,” said JaguarRSR’s Marc Goossens. “It’s knowing how to adapt to situations and try to adapt as easily as you can.”
