Luhr Joins Muscle Milk Team Cytosport For Petit Le Mans

Muscle Milk Team CytoSport will be joined by four-time ALMS series champion Lucas Luhr when it closes out its 2010 American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón season at Road Atlanta.

Luhr will be replacing team owner and co-driver Greg Pickett who was injured in a testing crash at Mid-Ohio in August.

The former Porsche factory driver completes the team’s lineup for the 10-hour/1000-mile Petit Le Mans race, which also includes regular driver Klaus Graf as well as Sascha Maassen, who will be back with Muscle Milk Team CytoSport for a third race this season.

Maassen and Luhr were teammates when the pair was crowned LMP2 champions in 2006 aboard the Porsche RS Spyder.

“I’m really looking forward to drive the Porsche RS Spyder at Road Atlanta with Muscle Milk Team CytoSport,” said Luhr. “As we have seen this season, the team has been doing so well and they are proven winners. It will be a pleasure to drive for them.

“It will also be nice to drive the Spyder again. I drove the first race with it at Laguna Seca together with Sascha and then we won the championship in the Spyder the following year so I have great memories behind the wheel of this car. To be able to drive it again will be great, especially at one of the best, if not the best track in the U.S., I can’t wait.”

With 68 starts in the ALMS, Luhr has gone on to claim 31 victories, 53 top-three finishes, 60 top-fives and 67 top-10s. In addition to his 2006 championship, Luhr, along with Maassen, has two GT championships, taking the honors in 2002 and 2003.

As an Audi works driver, Luhr won the 2008 LMP1 championship with Marco Werner and has been competing in select events for Audi this past season.

“As much as we would have liked to see Greg back behind the wheel to end the season, we’re thrilled to have Lucas join us,” expressed Geoffrey Carter, team manager for Muscle Milk Team CytoSport. “Greg was cautiously hoping to be back for Petit, but while his recovery is ahead of schedule, he is not ready to get back in the Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder just yet.

“Lucas is a great addition to the team. He has much experience aboard the Porsche RS Spyder and I think he is going to fit right in. He and Sascha have proven in the past that they make a great team and both will be a great complement to Klaus.”

The 13th annual Petit Le Mans takes place September 29 to October 2, 2010 with the race being broadcast live on Saturday, October 2 starting at 11:00 a.m. ET.
