Camirand and Rapone fastest qualifiers at the GP3R in Trois Rivieres

(Trois Rivières – August 13, 2010)  – 39 drivers took the green flag for the 30-minute qualifying session at the GP3R this afternoon. The only driver not to make the qualifying session was Markham, Ontario driver Tom Kwok, who was unable to get his M&S sponsored Honda Civic to the line when his engine suffered mechanical issues after this morning’s practice session.

Victoria-SpeedFest-2010-MosportJust prior to an early “black flag” stoppage in the session to retrieve a stalled Fastwheels Hyundai Tiburon driven by Lee Chaplin and to repair some track damage to the inside wall at pit entrance, Camirand Competition driver, Marc-Antoine Camirand made early work of taking the top spot on the grid laying down the fastest time of 1:13.083.

Camirand was able to hold off the hard charging Donington Motorsports driver Dave Ciekiewicz in his Subaru WRX STi who laid down a very respectable 1:13.791 for second spot, just ahead of Lombardi Honda’s Nick Wittmer. Wittmer put a 1:13.927 in the books but was later sidelined with a rear axle problem that was the result of an early session brush with the wall and flat right rear tire.

In the Touring class, Anthony Rapone took top honours with a slight improvement over his practice session time in his Durabond /Compass 360 Racing Honda Civic Si with a time of 1:17.118. Fellow Durabond/Compass 360 driver Karl Thomson wasn’t far behind with a best time of 1:17.536, just a little off his early morning practice time. BMS Racing driver Jacques Bèlanger repeated his hard charge from earlier in the day and took the third spot in Touring with a 1:17.659.

The 30-minute heat race will get underway on Saturday afternoon at 4:40 p.m.
