Canadian Touring Car Championship ready for season Opener

Toronto, May 19th 2011 – The fifth season of Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Continental Tire begins this weekend at Mosport International Raceway. Competitors and fans have been waiting for over eight months to get back on the track. The weekend will feature rounds 1 and 2 of the Fifteen Round 2011 season.

 

Competitors take to the track beginning Saturday morning with qualifying, followed by Round 1 of the championship in the afternoon. The cars will warm-up Sunday morning in preparation for Round 2 of the championship on Sunday afternoon. Tickets to attend the event are available at www.mosport.com.

 

CTCC consists of two unique classes competing for supremacy in their class. Touring Class is the entry level class where only minimal vehicles modifications are permitted. They are typically up to 2.0 litres with 200 maximum horsepower while Super Class includes highly modified engines, suspension and aerodynamics. They are typically up to 3.0 litres with 300 maximum horsepower. Manufacturers include Acura, BMW, Chevrolet, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Pontiac and Subaru. This season, there will be new models from Audi and Scion too.

Castrol is a founding partner and key supporter of CTCC since its inception. Continental Tire is the presenting sponsor and new partner to CTCC. Continental has developed a race tire based on their Extreme Contact family of products that competitors will be using exclusively for the next three years. In addition, both Alpinestars and Sunoco Race Fuels (B&G Performance Fuels) are new partners this season. ANZE Suspension and Advanced Engine Management, Inc. (AEM) return as technical partners.
