Mathieu Audette First in Super and Alain Lauziere First in Touring

Trois-Rivières, August 6th 2011 – It is under a red flag that ended the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Continental Tire (CTCC) featured night race Friday night at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. Before packed grandstands, the race was presented amazingly with a protocol presentation and drivers asked to “start their engine”.

Nevertheless, it was a very challenging race with darkness sitting in quite quickly forcing the drivers to be more concentrated on the track with headlights on, sometimes disturbing if the driver behind them was a little too close.

A four-car wide first turn had Bob Attrell in his Hyundai Genesis Coupe spun but no damaged were encountered since all the drivers managed to pass him and follow their course. Attrell managed to climb back up nicely to finish the race at the fifth position of the Super Class.

In Super Class, Mathieu Audette in his Acura RSX-S won the first place after leading the field during all the race, he was followed in second place by Nick Wittmer in a Hyundai Tiburon from Fastco Motorsports. Sasha Anis in his Hyundai Genesis Coupe obtained third place.  Fourth and fifth positions were given to Richard Boake and Bob Attrell.

This race was more dramatic for the Touring Class as a terrible and spectacular accident happened during the last lap and forced the race to end on a red flag. Trying to pass Michel Sallenbach’s MINI, P.J. Groenke flipped and slided on his roof down the backstraight. No harm was done to the driver.

Round Eleven, for Touring Class, ended with Alain Lauziere in his MINI first place, Tom Kwok in his Honda Civic in second place and Jocelyn Hebert in his Honda Civic in third place. This Trois-Rivières driver had a impressive climb-up as he started at the back of the field on the starting grid.

Fourth and fifth positions were given to Jacques Belanger and Michel Sallenbach.

Round Twelve will take place at 3:05 this after-noon.
