Domenicali has Montezemolo’s ‘full confidence’

Luca di Montezemolo on Saturday said Ferrari will not be ousting its team boss.

After a bungled race strategy cost Fernando Alonso the title last year, head engineer Chris Dyer was ousted.  The same fate befell technical boss Aldo Costa earlier this season when the 150 Italia car was struggling for pace.

With the car just fourth and sixth on the grid for Ferrari’s crucial home race at Monza, then, might team principal Stefano Domenicali be the next to fall?

“When Jean Todt left us, an era came to an end,” Ferrari president Montezemolo, making his traditional visit to the Monza paddock on Saturday, said.

“We have a new start with new people and a new mentality.  There is certainly some room to make things better, but Stefano Domenicali enjoys my full confidence.

“Very simply, yes — we will hold on to him,” he insisted.

Montezemolo was also asked by reporters if Ferrari is interested in luring star designer Adrian Newey away from Red Bull.

“Yes, of course, but it’s no different now than twenty years ago,” he answered.  “We always want the best technicians and the best drivers.

“I respect the work of Adrian Newey very much, but I am sure that our people can build a great car.”
