It rained overnight in Barcelona and the track was wet on Saturday morning when the new GP3 cars were running.
But at the same time the sun was shining and drying the Circuit de Catalunya surface, amid forecasts for almost certain rain on Saturday and also Sunday.
“This weekend will be about qualifying position and the way the weather turns out to be on Sunday,” said Force India’s chief engineer Dominic Harlow.
