FAZZT Race Team in 13th place overall in the driver standings

Alex Tagliani closes the FAZZT Race Team inaugural IndyCar season in 13th place in the standings.

Homestead, Florida (October 2, 2010) – Starting 19th on the grid, FAZZT Race Team driver Alex Tagliani finished 14th in Saturday night’s 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series finale at the Florida 2.414-km Homestead-Miami Speedway oval track to close the inaugural season of the FAZZT Race Team in 13th place overall in the driver standings. FAZZT played a strategy game in the race when they did not pit during a caution at the halfway point while the leaders did. The team was hoping for caution free to the end of the race that would enable Tagliani to pit only once more while the others would have to make two stops to reach the end of the 200-lap Cafes do Brasil Indy 300. Tagliani led three laps before making his stop. Unfortunately, the off-sequence plan did not work when point’s leader Will Power brushed the wall on lap 133 bringing out a full course yellow.

Power’s slap into the wall broke his right front and rear suspensions ending his hopes for his first championship title. Scott Dixon won the final race of the season for Chip Ganassi Racing while his teammate Dario Franchitti, who led the most laps in the race, slowed down following Will Power’s demise to finish eighth in the race and clinch his third championship in four years, the fifth in-a-row for Ganassi Racing.

“It was a pretty good race until the last restart,” Alex Tagliani said. “The boys did a good job, and the car was getting faster with each lap. All the way through the race, we were able to be competitive on restarts and make some up some ground and were able to make it all the way up to 11th. We were pushed into the grey on the last restart and lost a bunch of positions. We fought back all the way through, we were side by side with Ed Carpenter off the last corner on the last lap but it was just a little too late. Other than that it was a good race, we had a top ten car and were able to drive up through the field.”

Rob Edwards, FAZZT Race Team COO/General Manager:

“An exciting race, a good drive from Alex and another excellent job from the crew. Don, Phil and the guys have given us a 100% reliability record in our first year and are to be congratulated on that. Disappointing not to finish a little higher tonight and secure twelfth in the points but we have a lot to be thankful for from this season and we will go into the break excited about our prospects for 2011.”

The IndyCar Series returns in 2011 with the season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida the weekend of March 27, 2011. The return of two traditional venues, Milwaukee and New Hampshire, and the addition of an exciting new downtown event in Baltimore are highlights of the 17-race 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series schedule with eight ovals and road/street events.
