{"id":10406,"date":"2011-01-10T07:02:57","date_gmt":"2011-01-10T12:02:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=10406"},"modified":"2011-01-10T07:02:57","modified_gmt":"2011-01-10T12:02:57","slug":"rome-mayor-says-monza-more-important-to-f1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/rome-mayor-says-monza-more-important-to-f1\/","title":{"rendered":"Rome mayor says Monza more important to F1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rome mayor Gianni Alemanno has pledged only conditional support to plans for a formula one street race in the Italian capital.<\/p>\n<p>There is fierce opposition to promoter Maurizio Flammini&#8217;s plans for the race in the EUR district including from Ferrari, who insist that there is only room in F1 for one grand prix per country.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Alemanno has now declared that if that is true, then Monza and not Rome should represent Italy in F1.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If it comes down to a choice between Monza or Rome, then we (the city) will step back because the Italian grand prix is at Monza,&#8221; he is quoted by Rai.<\/p>\n<p>But Alemanno added that he does think there is &#8220;room&#8221; in F1 for two Italian races.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A circuit race and a street race are different and we think the two will support one another,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>When asked why many people \u2013 including EUR residents \u2013 oppose the Rome grand prix project, Alemanno said it is due to their &#8220;little knowledge&#8221; of the plans.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think it&#8217;s worth it because it will increase the tourist flow and the international attention of the whole of Italy,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rome mayor Gianni Alemanno has pledged only conditional support to plans for a formula one street race in the Italian capital.
