{"id":11318,"date":"2011-03-02T20:18:41","date_gmt":"2011-03-03T01:18:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=11318"},"modified":"2011-03-02T20:18:41","modified_gmt":"2011-03-03T01:18:41","slug":"green-savoree-buys-mid-ohio-sports-car-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/events-shows\/green-savoree-buys-mid-ohio-sports-car-course\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Savoree Buys Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>INDIANAPOLIS, March 2, 2011 \u2013 Green Savoree Racing Promotions, through newly formed, wholly owned subsidiary Green Savoree Mid-Ohio, LLC, has purchased Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and The Mid-Ohio School from Dublin, Ohio-based TrueSports, Inc.<\/p>\n<p>Green Savoree, which also owns and operates the Honda Indy Toronto and Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, will assume operations of the Lexington, Ohio motorsports facility and performance driving and riding school immediately, retaining TrueSports\u2019 offices and staff and promoting Mid-Ohio\u2019s 2011 schedule of spectator and non-spectator events and school course dates.\u00a0 Other terms of the sale were not announced.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProperties like Mid-Ohio don\u2019t come on the market every day,\u201d said Green Savoree Co-Owner, President and Chief Operating Officer Kevin Savoree. \u201cIt was a great opportunity to invest in a property with a great history and tradition that, like us, has deep roots in sports car and Indy car racing. It was also a chance to extend our relationship with Honda, which is a longtime partner of Mid-Ohio and our other properties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a positive and very exciting deal, and one that serves all our interests,\u201d said TrueSports, Inc. President Michelle Trueman Gajoch. \u201cKim (Green) and Kevin have a great track record as team owners and event promoters, and will bring a new energy and perspective to the operation.\u00a0 That\u2019s great news for our associates and fans and for the many loyal partners we\u2019ve been doing business with for so many years.\u00a0 They\u2019re the right people to steward the track through its next 50 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will celebrate its 50th season of racing in 2011.\u00a0 The track\u2019s golden anniversary schedule is set to include the Vintage Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio, June 24-26; Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire, July 8-10; AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, July 22-24; Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge\/The Honda Indy\u2122 200 at Mid-Ohio, August 5-7; NASA Championships presented by Toyo Tires, September 9-11; and EMCO Gears Classic presented by KeyBank, September 16-18.\u00a0 The Mid-Ohio School has nearly 180 course dates currently scheduled for 2011 beginning in March, and the track and school both have private events scheduled throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been racing at Mid-Ohio since 1981 and have seen the pride Michelle and her team have put into the facility and the tradition they\u2019ve established,\u201d said Green Savoree Co-Owner, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kim Green. \u201cIt\u2019s a legacy we\u2019ll carry on with great pride.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Mid-Ohio facility was built in 1962 by Mansfield, Ohio businessman Les Griebling as a place for sports car racing.\u00a0 The track was purchased by entrepreneur and racing enthusiast Jim Trueman in 1982. Trueman invested millions in the facility, luring major series like CART and IROC and raising the track\u2019s profile as one of the country\u2019s premier road racing venues.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition to continuing to develop this fantastic facility, we look forward to building relationships with the track and school\u2019s many longtime partners and attracting even more of the exciting events Mid-Ohio\u2019s loyal fans have come to expect,\u201d Savoree added.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re eager to write the next chapter in the 50-year history of North America\u2019s largest privately held road course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A park-like, 330-acre complex, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course features a permanent road-racing circuit with two primary configurations: a 2.4-mile, 15 turn course and a 2.25- mile, 13-turn circuit. The track, which is located 60 miles north of Columbus and 75 miles south of Cleveland, has been called the most competitive in the U.S. and annually hosts a diverse lineup of locally, regionally and nationally sanctioned racing events for amateur, club and professional drivers and riders.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Mid-Ohio  School provides professional driving and riding instruction to drivers and motorcyclists of all skill levels.\u00a0 The school\u2019s 20 different programs vary from Defensive Driving, Performance Driving and Racing programs on the automobile side to Beginning, Experienced, Advanced Cornering and Performance Track Riding programs on the motorcycle side.\u00a0 Students enjoy classroom sessions, skill drills, expert personal instruction and lapping on the same track that challenges the world\u2019s top racers.\u00a0 The school has graduated more than 41,000 students since its inception in 1993.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2009 by veteran motorsports executives Kim Green and Kevin Savoree, Green Savoree Racing Promotions is a privately held motorsports event ownership and management company.\u00a0 In working together since 1993, Green and Savoree have won four IndyCar championships, three Indy 500s and the 12 Hours of Sebring as team principals, and established the Indy Racing League\u2019s first street race in 2004.\u00a0 Headquartered in Indianapolis, the firm owns and promotes multiple professional racing events in North America, including the Honda Indy Toronto and Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
