{"id":11933,"date":"2011-04-16T09:52:48","date_gmt":"2011-04-16T13:52:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=11933"},"modified":"2011-04-16T09:52:48","modified_gmt":"2011-04-16T13:52:48","slug":"strategy-blunder-leaves-webber-18th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/strategy-blunder-leaves-webber-18th\/","title":{"rendered":"Strategy blunder leaves Webber 18th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mark Webber on Saturday rued a strategy mistake that leaves him stranded 18th on the Chinese grand prix grid.<\/p>\n<p>While his Red Bull teammate secured a third consecutive 2011 pole, Australian Webber went out at the first hurdle in Q1, with KERS problems already slowing him down.<\/p>\n<p>He failed to make the cut in Q1 after electing not to use the significantly faster soft tyre compound.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We thought we had enough speed even without them,&#8221; Webber told German broadcaster RTL, &#8220;but the problem was I couldn&#8217;t get them to temperature.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether he would have been faster with softs, he answered: &#8220;Of course.\u00a0 The decision was made on the pitwall and usually they get it right&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Team boss Christian Horner confirmed that it was the pitwall&#8217;s decision to try to get through Q1 with Webber on the hard tyre only.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s very easy with hindsight to say we should have gone on the option (softs),&#8221; he told the BBC.\u00a0 &#8220;It was the team&#8217;s call.\u00a0 He&#8217;s just had rotten luck this weekend.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mark Webber on Saturday rued a strategy mistake that leaves him stranded 18th on the Chinese grand prix grid.
