{"id":12614,"date":"2011-06-02T06:57:06","date_gmt":"2011-06-02T10:57:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=12614"},"modified":"2011-06-02T06:57:06","modified_gmt":"2011-06-02T10:57:06","slug":"virgin-set-to-confirm-wirth-split","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/virgin-set-to-confirm-wirth-split\/","title":{"rendered":"Virgin set to confirm Wirth split"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Virgin is yet to officially confirm reports Nick Wirth has left the struggling team.<\/p>\n<p>An Italian magazine on Wednesday said the Marussia-sponsored team is in talks with McLaren and Mercedes about a Force India-style technical collaboration for 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The report said the new package would include the engine, transmission, KERS and rear suspension, reinforcing rumours that Virgin&#8217;s collaboration with technical director Wirth and his Wirth Research group was ending.<\/p>\n<p>Virgin has been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The news would come amid a difficult period for the team, with Wirth determined to design Virgin&#8217;s cars without a wind tunnel but the MVR-02 in danger of being overtaken by the back-of-the-grid HRT cars.<\/p>\n<p>In Barcelona, the team removed its latest blown diffuser technology from the car, ostensibly because the FIA is set to issue a clarification about the legality of the concept that is widespread along the pitlane.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will see what this clarification looks like and then determine the direction we are going,&#8221; said Virgin Racing&#8217;s chief executive Graeme Lowdon in Monaco.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Virgin is yet to officially confirm reports Nick Wirth has left the struggling team.
