{"id":12928,"date":"2011-06-26T06:46:02","date_gmt":"2011-06-26T10:46:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=12928"},"modified":"2011-06-26T06:46:02","modified_gmt":"2011-06-26T10:46:02","slug":"grand-prix-hosts-threatened-f1-boycott-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/grand-prix-hosts-threatened-f1-boycott-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Grand prix hosts threatened F1 boycott &#8211; report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Grand prix organisers around the world threatened to pull the plug if formula one pushed ahead with small &#8216;green&#8217; engines.<\/p>\n<p>Every formula one race promoter except China and Korea signed a letter by Australian organiser Ron Walker saying they would drop F1 and instead host Indycar events if the FIA did not do a u-turn over the controversial engine plan.<\/p>\n<p>The letter was received by the governing body on Wednesday, a day before the four-cylinder plan was voted down by the F1 Commission in favour of V6 turbos in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>But reports after that London meeting suggested that F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone still wants F1 to have loud V8 engines.<\/p>\n<p>The UK Express quoted Walker as saying loud engines are crucial to F1&#8217;s appeal, and that the FIA&#8217;s proposed alternatives would sound &#8220;like a tin can rattling&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are not going to have our customer base destroyed,&#8221; added the Australian Grand Prix Corporation chairman.\u00a0 &#8220;I told them that the circuits would not run it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The sound is part of the brand,&#8221; he insisted.<\/p>\n<p>It is an interesting time in F1 politically, with the Independent on Sunday quoting Williams chairman Adam Parr as admitting the teams want to own a stake in the sport.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The teams have discussed the possibility,&#8221; he said.\u00a0 &#8220;It would be great for us to have a significant stake, though I don&#8217;t think we should control the commercial rights.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We could work alongside Bernie and someone like CVC,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Grand prix organisers around the world threatened to pull the plug if formula one pushed ahead with small &#8216;green&#8217; engines.
