{"id":13370,"date":"2011-08-12T07:27:47","date_gmt":"2011-08-12T11:27:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=13370"},"modified":"2011-08-12T07:27:47","modified_gmt":"2011-08-12T11:27:47","slug":"teams-to-decide-on-qualifying-tyres-hembery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/teams-to-decide-on-qualifying-tyres-hembery\/","title":{"rendered":"Teams to decide on qualifying tyres &#8211; Hembery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Paul Hembery has taken time out of the August break to confirm rumours that qualifying tyres are on the agenda for the future.<\/p>\n<p>We reported in June that ultra-fast and sticky qualifying tyres, designed to last only one flying lap, are among Pirelli&#8217;s many ideas about how to maximise its new role as official F1 supplier.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the end for something like that the decision is with the teams.\u00a0 They might say no,&#8221; the Italian marque&#8217;s British motor sport director said.<\/p>\n<p>A British magazine on Thursday said Pirelli is offering to supply qualifying tyres to the teams as early as 2012.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;(There are) many discussions (but the) teams decide, not us,&#8221; Hembery said on Twitter when asked about the qualifying tyre rumour.<\/p>\n<p>Asked how much quicker the tyres would be compared to the current &#8216;super softs&#8217;, he added: &#8220;Not sure yet but up to 2 seconds a lap.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hembery, however, said that there are &#8220;no immediate plans&#8221; either for 18-inch wheel rims of extra-wide 15-inch tyres: &#8220;(The) teams (are) not keen and we would need a test car.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But he did confirm that he is enjoying his summer break.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mega, just lazing, reading and drinking beers and cocktails.\u00a0 Just what I needed,&#8221; said Hembery.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paul Hembery has taken time out of the August break to confirm rumours that qualifying tyres are on the agenda for the future.
