{"id":13572,"date":"2011-08-30T06:57:46","date_gmt":"2011-08-30T10:57:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=13572"},"modified":"2011-08-30T06:57:46","modified_gmt":"2011-08-30T10:57:46","slug":"renault-team-owner-lopez-open-to-spa-buy-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/renault-team-owner-lopez-open-to-spa-buy-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Renault team owner Lopez open to Spa buy-out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Renault team owner Gerard Lopez has confirmed his interest in buying into Spa-Francorchamps.<\/p>\n<p>The fabled Belgian circuit is a favourite among drivers and fans, but for financial reasons it might have to annually alternate a single race date in future with France.<\/p>\n<p>Spa is currently controlled by the local Walloon government, and it was rumoured recently that Lopez&#8217;s Genii Capital was interested in buying into the track.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Spa is a great circuit,&#8221; he told the Tageblatt Luxembourg newspaper, &#8220;and there would be a lot more we can do with it.\u00a0 We could develop together for the region.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So if they are open for (talks with) private investors, then why not?&#8221; said Lopez.<\/p>\n<p>The circuit&#8217;s general manager Pierre-Alain Thibaut, however, said that is unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is not possible,&#8221; he told The National.\u00a0 &#8220;The circuit is so important and imperative to all the region from an economic point of view.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Of course, anything can happen, but, in my opinion, it is not the right way forward.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Renault team owner Gerard Lopez has confirmed his interest in buying into Spa-Francorchamps.
