{"id":13641,"date":"2011-09-09T07:06:50","date_gmt":"2011-09-09T11:06:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=13641"},"modified":"2011-09-09T07:06:50","modified_gmt":"2011-09-09T11:06:50","slug":"mercedes-plays-down-monza-victory-hopes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/mercedes-plays-down-monza-victory-hopes\/","title":{"rendered":"Mercedes plays down Monza victory hopes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mercedes is working &#8220;almost exclusively&#8221; on its 2012 car, team boss Ross Brawn has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>He was speaking ahead of the Italian grand prix at Monza, where Ferrari&#8217;s Felipe Massa had singled out the Brackley based team as a potential frontrunner this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Massa thinks Mercedes&#8217; engine\/KERS\/DRS combination will be particularly effective on the long Monza straights, but Michael Schumacher insisted: &#8220;I don&#8217;t think we have a reason to talk about victories at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll have to postpone this until next year,&#8221; said the German.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Guardian newspaper, Brawn confirmed that the &#8220;focus is firmly on 2012 now and I think that would be the case for the majority of the teams&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>As well as Massa, however, McLaren&#8217;s Jenson Button is also predicting a strong showing for Schumacher and teammate Nico Rosberg in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Mercedes was very quick in a straight line at Spa,&#8221; he said.\u00a0 &#8220;I&#8217;m hoping that was their Monza wing, because if not they are going to be very, very fast here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mercedes is working &#8220;almost exclusively&#8221; on its 2012 car, team boss Ross Brawn has revealed.
