{"id":15171,"date":"2012-02-09T07:07:36","date_gmt":"2012-02-09T12:07:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=15171"},"modified":"2012-02-09T07:07:36","modified_gmt":"2012-02-09T12:07:36","slug":"legal-dispute-could-derail-f1-at-the-nurburgring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/legal-dispute-could-derail-f1-at-the-nurburgring\/","title":{"rendered":"Legal dispute could derail F1 at the Nurburgring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The future of the German grand prix at the Nurburgring looks set to race into the courts.<\/p>\n<p>The Rhineland-Palatinate state this week said it intends to cancel the circuit operator&#8217;s lease, arguing that a bright future is &#8220;not possible&#8221; with the existing tenants.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Roger Lewentz said he wants to personally take over the negotiations with Bernie Ecclestone about the future of the F1 race.<\/p>\n<p>But according to the SID news agency, the operator Nurburgring Automotive GmbH (NAG) has announced it will fight back, including demanding &#8220;substantial amounts&#8221; from the government for the wrongful action.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is no reason for this extraordinary step,&#8221; NAG&#8217;s lawyer is quoted as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The company&#8217;s spokesman said the situation is crucial to Germany&#8217;s future on the F1 calendar.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Already, there are many candidates waiting for a (race) date to be available,&#8221; NAG spokesman Karl-Heinz Steinkuehler said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Without the Nurburgring, formula one would make probably only a guest appearance every two years in Germany, at the Hockenheimring,&#8221; he warned.<\/p>\n<p>The minister Lewentz, however, said the government is ready for a fight, despite hoping for &#8220;an amicable solution&#8221; to the dispute with the operator.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If not, a lengthy legal dispute cannot be ruled out,&#8221; he said.\u00a0 &#8220;We consider ourselves well prepared.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The future of the German grand prix at the Nurburgring looks set to race into the courts.
