{"id":16198,"date":"2012-06-15T07:04:31","date_gmt":"2012-06-15T11:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=16198"},"modified":"2012-06-15T07:04:31","modified_gmt":"2012-06-15T11:04:31","slug":"ecclestone-approves-plan-to-move-interlagos-pits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/ecclestone-approves-plan-to-move-interlagos-pits\/","title":{"rendered":"Ecclestone approves plan to move Interlagos pits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bernie Ecclestone has approved plans to radically upgrade the Interlagos circuit, scene of the annual Brazilian grand prix in Sao Paulo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center alignright\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2012-rif-images\/f1-12-people\/Bernie-Ecclestone-2.jpg\" alt=\"Bernie-Ecclestone-2\" width=\"384\" height=\"256\" \/>O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper reports that the plans were presented to the London office of the sport&#8217;s chief executive on Wednesday of this week.<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper said Ecclestone&#8217;s approval of the sweeping plans essentially guarantees the organisers will retain the event beyond the 2014 contract until at least 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Briton Ecclestone reportedly agreed that the plans comply with what he requested.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, the 81-year-old said: &#8220;Brazil will have the next World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.\u00a0 It makes sense.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have long believed in Brazil &#8212; we&#8217;ve been there since 1972,&#8221; Ecclestone added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The future of formula one Brazil depends now on major improvements at Interlagos,&#8221; he said.\u00a0 &#8220;These events (World Cup and Olympics) are a great opportunity to look at the circuit as well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I can no longer be questioned by the teams about why we are racing at the worst circuit in the championship,&#8221; said Ecclestone.<\/p>\n<p>Ecclestone demanded a drastic improvement in the ageing and cramped pit and paddock area at Interlagos.<\/p>\n<p>But because of the steep terrain beyond the current paddock area, the organisers proposed to move the pits and start-finish line to the expansive area on the long straight after the Senna-S and Curva do Sol.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bernie Ecclestone has approved plans to radically upgrade the Interlagos circuit, scene of the annual Brazilian grand prix in Sao Paulo.
