{"id":16345,"date":"2012-07-09T20:14:48","date_gmt":"2012-07-10T00:14:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=16345"},"modified":"2012-07-09T20:14:48","modified_gmt":"2012-07-10T00:14:48","slug":"spa-agrees-new-three-year-grand-prix-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/spa-agrees-new-three-year-grand-prix-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"Spa agrees new three-year grand prix deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spa-Francorchamps will continue to host the Belgian grand prix for at least the next three years.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignleft\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2012-rif-images\/f1-12-circuits\/bel-spa-francorchamps.jpg\" alt=\"bel-spa-francorchamps\" width=\"307\" height=\"205\" \/>Jean-Claude Marcourt, economics minister for the local Wallonia region, told public broadcaster RTBF that the &#8220;agreement in principle&#8221; for the 2013, 2014 and 2015 seasons was reached with F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were able to negotiate a contract extension for the years 2013, 2014 and 2015, where there will be the Belgian grand prix at Spa-Francorchamps in Wallonia,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The current contract expires after this September&#8217;s race at the hugely-popular circuit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What I wanted to do was to reduce the size of the expenditure budget for the Walloon region,&#8221; Marcourt continued, &#8220;and I would say we have accomplished the mission.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was no way we could continue to lose as much money as we have been.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The minister said earlier plans to annually alternate the event with France ended along with Nicolas Sarkozy&#8217;s administration.<\/p>\n<p>Marcourt said that plan &#8220;was considered at the request of our French friends.\u00a0 Unfortunately or fortunately, they did not give practical effect to those proposals, and so we decided to sign for a further three years&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spa-Francorchamps will continue to host the Belgian grand prix for at least the next three years.
