{"id":16353,"date":"2012-07-10T18:37:02","date_gmt":"2012-07-10T22:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=16353"},"modified":"2012-07-10T18:37:02","modified_gmt":"2012-07-10T22:37:02","slug":"still-no-new-singapore-gp-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/still-no-new-singapore-gp-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"Still no new Singapore GP deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Singapore is yet to ink a contract to continue hosting formula one beyond 2012.<\/p>\n<p>We reported earlier this year that, despite Bernie Ecclestone hand-picking the city-state as the location of the sport&#8217;s public floatation, Singapore officials are no longer willing to pay &#8220;top dollar&#8221; for the race.<\/p>\n<p>The reports said the government has been paying a sanctioning fee of about $40 million per year &#8212; &#8220;roughly twice&#8221; the amount paid by another Asian race, Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Channel NewsAsia is reporting that the government has told the street circuit&#8217;s promoter Singapore GP that it will only extend the deal if a new contract is &#8220;economically viable&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We hope to see a mutually agreeable outcome soon,&#8221; said trade minister S Iswaran.<\/p>\n<p>With a five-year contract, Singapore hosted its first grand prix &#8211; the first for F1 under floodlights &#8211; in 2008.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Singapore is yet to ink a contract to continue hosting formula one beyond 2012.
