{"id":16372,"date":"2012-07-16T19:14:50","date_gmt":"2012-07-16T23:14:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=16372"},"modified":"2012-07-16T19:14:50","modified_gmt":"2012-07-16T23:14:50","slug":"fewer-tyre-pitstops-in-2012-analysis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/fewer-tyre-pitstops-in-2012-analysis\/","title":{"rendered":"Fewer tyre pitstops in 2012 &#8211; analysis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pirelli remains at the centre of the F1 &#8216;show&#8217;, but a new analysis proves that the marque&#8217;s tyres in 2012 are less fragile than last year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignleft\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2012\/championship-f1-2012\/R12Mon-F1\/R12Mon-F1-04.jpg\" alt=\"R12Mon-F1-04\" width=\"384\" height=\"256\" \/>Germany&#8217;s Auto Motor und Sport said that following the pitstop frenzy of the Italian supplier&#8217;s first season back on the grid, there has been &#8220;much less&#8221; tyre degradation so far in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>In 2010, for Bridgestone&#8217;s last year in F1, the analysis said there were between one and two pitstops per driver &#8212; 304 in total over the first nine races.<\/p>\n<p>That number blew out to 560 stops in the first nine races of 2011, but so far this season there have been only 466 tyre pitstops.<\/p>\n<p>An illustration of the changed situation is that, in 2011, there were 65 tyre pitstops at Valencia.\u00a0 This year, there were 49.<\/p>\n<p>And at Silverstone last year, there were 54 stops, compared to 43 earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>The situation could change yet again, with Pirelli already testing a new experimental harder compound that Paul Hembery says the supplier &#8220;may use in the future&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Journalist Michael Schmidt said: &#8220;The reason for the decline in pitstops is obvious &#8212; the teams and Pirelli have learned.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pirelli remains at the centre of the F1 &#8216;show&#8217;, but a new analysis proves that the marque&#8217;s tyres in 2012 are less fragile than last year.
