{"id":16497,"date":"2012-08-06T07:41:55","date_gmt":"2012-08-06T11:41:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=16497"},"modified":"2012-08-06T07:41:55","modified_gmt":"2012-08-06T11:41:55","slug":"schumacher-should-know-the-rules-whiting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/schumacher-should-know-the-rules-whiting\/","title":{"rendered":"Schumacher &#8216;should know the rules&#8217; &#8211; Whiting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Charlie Whiting has pointed a finger of criticism at Michael Schumacher and Mercedes in the wake of the recent Hungarian grand prix.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center alignright\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2012-rif-images\/f1-12-people\/Charlie-Whiting.jpg\" alt=\"Charlie-Whiting\" width=\"384\" height=\"256\" \/>The Hungaroring race start was delayed when Schumacher, who at 43 is F1&#8217;s oldest active driver, lined up on the wrong grid slot.<\/p>\n<p>Marshals then had to push the great German&#8217;s Mercedes off the grid after he deliberately stopped the engine, forgetting that the race re-start procedure had been changed way back in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>Whiting, who is the official race starter and the highest ranking FIA official at grands prix, confirmed to German newspaper Bild am Sonntag that Schumacher caused the start chaos.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Michael should know the rules,&#8221; the Briton added.<\/p>\n<p>Bild asked Whiting if drivers are required to pass a rules test prior to being awarded their coveted F1 super license.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not by the FIA,&#8221; he answered.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We assume that a team competing in formula one knows the rules.\u00a0 It is the responsibility of the teams to ensure that its drivers &#8211; its employees &#8211; know the rules,&#8221; said Whiting.<\/p>\n<p>Flanked by Rubens Barrichello (326 grands prix) and Riccardo Patrese (257), Michael Schumacher (299) is the second most experienced driver in formula one history.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Charlie Whiting has pointed a finger of criticism at Michael Schumacher and Mercedes in the wake of the recent Hungarian grand prix.
