{"id":16604,"date":"2012-09-11T07:28:53","date_gmt":"2012-09-11T11:28:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=16604"},"modified":"2012-09-11T07:28:53","modified_gmt":"2012-09-11T11:28:53","slug":"stealthy-raikkonen-keeps-title-tilt-at-full-speed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/stealthy-raikkonen-keeps-title-tilt-at-full-speed\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Stealthy&#8217; Raikkonen keeps title tilt at full speed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stefano Domenicali has identified former Ferrari champion Kimi Raikkonen as a real threat for the 2012 title.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignleft\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2012-rif-images\/f1-12-drivers\/Kimi-Raikkonen.jpg\" alt=\"Kimi-Raikkonen\" width=\"384\" height=\"256\" \/>It is Ferrari&#8217;s new number 1, Fernando Alonso, who is comfortably leading the drivers&#8217; standings by 37 points after Monza.<\/p>\n<p>The Spaniard has been on the podium 7 times this year so far, including 3 wins.<\/p>\n<p>But, despite no wins at the wheel of his black and gold Lotus, Finn Raikkonen has had 6 podiums in the same period, and is now third in the standings behind Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.<\/p>\n<p>He was disappointed to finish just fifth at Monza, but also pragmatic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Every time you lose points to Alonso it hurts the championship fight,&#8221; Raikkonen is quoted by Turun Sanomat newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But before the race we had hoped for sixth and we went one better, so in that respect we got the maximum performance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sections of the international media are saying Raikkonen is the &#8220;silent&#8221; threat for the 2012 title; Reuters describing his campaign so far as &#8220;stealthy&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, the points gap to Alonso blew out by 5 points at Monza, now standing at 38 &#8212; the very same gap between Raikkonen and Alonso as seen at Valencia in June.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kimi will probably not win the championship,&#8221; triple world champion Sir Jackie Stewart said.\u00a0 &#8220;But if at the end he is still in the top three, it will be a fantastic result.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He has done a great job and always takes the points.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lotus boss Eric Boullier predicts the E20 will look better at the next races.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We knew Monza would be difficult for us, but the next tracks should suit our car once again.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kimi still has the chance for the title, even though it will be really difficult,&#8221; added the Frenchman.<\/p>\n<p>Boullier&#8217;s Ferrari counterpart, Domenicali, agrees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need to pay attention to Hamilton and also not underestimate Raikkonen,&#8221; he is quoted by Spain&#8217;s AS newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>El Pais also quotes him as saying: &#8220;I respect each of our opponents, but I&#8217;ve always said that Kimi is a very dangerous rival.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stefano Domenicali has identified former Ferrari champion Kimi Raikkonen as a real threat for the 2012 title.
