{"id":17258,"date":"2012-12-01T08:26:52","date_gmt":"2012-12-01T13:26:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=17258"},"modified":"2012-12-01T08:26:52","modified_gmt":"2012-12-01T13:26:52","slug":"f1-could-return-to-turkey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/f1-could-return-to-turkey\/","title":{"rendered":"F1 could return to Turkey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Moves are afoot to revive the defunct Turkish grand prix.<\/p>\n<p>Formula one raced at the Hermann Tilke-penned Istanbul Park &#8211; featuring the famous four-apex Turn 8 corner &#8211; between 2005 and 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Bernie Ecclestone and race organisers could not agree a new race fee for 2012 and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>But late last week, British journalist Bob Mackenzie, of the Daily Express, revealed that the F1 chief executive is &#8220;pushing for a return&#8221; of the Turkish event, &#8220;after ruling out a French race&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Greek website gocar.gr said the decision will be made in the coming week.<\/p>\n<p>Turkey&#8217;s change of fortune is due to a local businessman, Vural Ak, buying the circuit&#8217;s management rights.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve known Bernie Ecclestone for many years,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ak, who is willing to pay $5m out of his own pocket, said Ecclestone is asking for a $26 million fee for the race.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Turkish government is willing to put in $13.5 million, &#8220;So we are close to the sum of about $20 million a year&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Ecclestone said: &#8220;It is an issue that we would be happy to discuss with those responsible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would very much like to return to Turkey.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Moves are afoot to revive the defunct Turkish grand prix.
