{"id":17574,"date":"2013-01-15T07:07:47","date_gmt":"2013-01-15T12:07:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=17574"},"modified":"2013-01-15T07:07:47","modified_gmt":"2013-01-15T12:07:47","slug":"ascanelli-set-for-f1-return-not-with-ferrari-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/ascanelli-set-for-f1-return-not-with-ferrari-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Ascanelli set for F1 return, not with Ferrari &#8211; report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Giorgio Ascanelli, the well-known F1 engineer who last year left his post as Toro Rosso&#8217;s technical director, is set to return to the sport.<\/p>\n<p>But Autosprint, the Italian magazine, played down reports the 53-year-old Italian has decided to go back to Ferrari.<\/p>\n<p>Ascanelli began his career at Ferrari in the mid 80s, and was Gerhard Berger&#8217;s engineer.\u00a0 He moved to Benetton and McLaren, at the latter team working alongside the great Ayrton Senna.<\/p>\n<p>Ascanelli returned to Ferrari in 1995, staying until 2001.\u00a0 It is known he is very good friends with the team&#8217;s new technical boss, Pat Fry, and Autosprint said he recently met with the Briton.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But he will not go (back) to Ferrari,&#8221; said correspondent Alberto Antonini.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;(But) Ascanelli is about to return to F1; the team&#8217;s name is not yet known,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Autosprint said Ascanelli left Toro Rosso, who replaced him with James Key, &#8220;after an argument&#8221; with team boss Franz Tost.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Giorgio Ascanelli, the well-known F1 engineer who last year left his post as Toro Rosso&#8217;s technical director, is set to return to the sport.
