{"id":17871,"date":"2013-02-26T06:47:23","date_gmt":"2013-02-26T11:47:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=17871"},"modified":"2013-02-26T06:47:23","modified_gmt":"2013-02-26T11:47:23","slug":"caterham-exhaust-legal-insists-van-der-garde","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/caterham-exhaust-legal-insists-van-der-garde\/","title":{"rendered":"Caterham exhaust &#8216;legal&#8217; insists van der Garde"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After Williams removed its controversial solution for the &#8216;Coanda&#8217;-effect exhaust late last week, heads are now turning in Caterham&#8217;s direction.<\/p>\n<p>Williams&#8217; move to remove the solution reportedly followed the FIA&#8217;s Charlie Whiting telling team designer Mike Coughlan at Jerez that he deemed it illegal.<\/p>\n<p>But while Williams&#8217; solution attempted to find a loophole in the regulations, Coughlan said recently he thought Caterham&#8217;s similar approach is &#8220;clearly not allowed&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A Caterham spokesman said: &#8220;We are continuing to evaluate a range of options at the pre-season tests as per our normal programme.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But the team&#8217;s new Dutch racer Giedo van der Garde is not so sure that means Caterham will remove the solution.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am told that it is legal, so I am not worried,&#8221; he is quoted by the Dutch magazine Formule1.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I expect to find the same exhaust on the car in Barcelona.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The third and final four-day pre-season test begins on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After Williams removed its controversial solution for the &#8216;Coanda&#8217;-effect exhaust late last week, heads are now turning in Caterham&#8217;s direction.
