{"id":18282,"date":"2013-05-15T07:03:34","date_gmt":"2013-05-15T11:03:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=18282"},"modified":"2013-05-15T07:03:34","modified_gmt":"2013-05-15T11:03:34","slug":"pirelli-making-tyre-change-for-own-image-red-bull","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/pirelli-making-tyre-change-for-own-image-red-bull\/","title":{"rendered":"Pirelli making tyre change &#8216;for own image&#8217; &#8211; Red Bull"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pirelli has denied claims it is making major changes to its 2013 tyre design as a result of the pressure applied by world champions Red Bull.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignleft\" style=\"margin: 5px 10px;\" alt=\"Pirelli-P-Zero-Hard-ORANGE-6\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2013-rif-images\/f1-2013-Pirelli-tyre\/Pirelli-P-Zero-Hard-ORANGE-6.jpg\" width=\"512\" height=\"341\" \/>Following the controversy in the wake of Sunday&#8217;s Spanish grand prix, Pirelli announced on Tuesday that it will make major changes in time for next month&#8217;s race in Canada, including reverting to the basic structure of the 2012 tyre.<\/p>\n<p>However, before deciding to make the changes, Pirelli&#8217;s Paul Hembery had warned that a reaction like that could hand the world championship to Red Bull.<\/p>\n<p>But he now insists: &#8220;I know there are concerns that the change will help some teams and punish others.\u00a0 But we are convinced that this is not the case.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This change has nothing to do with Red Bull&#8217;s criticism &#8212; certainly the criticism from some in the media was considerably harsher,&#8221; Hembery is quoted by Speed Week.<\/p>\n<p>Hembery acknowledges, however, that teams like Ferrari and Lotus did not complain anywhere near as loudly, because they were able to manage the original tyres.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They developed more in the mechanical direction than aerodynamic,&#8221; he said, &#8220;but we do not believe that by making this change, they are going to be disadvantaged,&#8221; he is quoted by Finland&#8217;s MTV3.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We certainly hope not, although there&#8217;s always a risk.\u00a0 We are still going to be fairly aggressive in terms of choosing the compounds.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Red Bull never officially came to us and demanded change, which is important for people to understand.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is by no means certain that this is going to help Red Bull, so people shouldn&#8217;t be so quick to assume that,&#8221; added Hembery.<\/p>\n<p>Red Bull team boss Christian Horner agrees that it is &#8220;impossible to predict&#8221; how Pirelli&#8217;s change will change the situation in Canada and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is all part of the challenge of formula one,&#8221; he is quoted by the UK newspaper Express.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the widespread criticism of the Italian marque&#8217;s approach so far in 2013, Horner said the change for Canada is &#8220;ultimately in Pirelli&#8217;s interests&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They had to do something for their own image,&#8221; the Briton is quoted by Germany&#8217;s Sport Bild.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pirelli has denied claims it is making major changes to its 2013 tyre design as a result of the pressure applied by world champions Red Bull.
