{"id":18329,"date":"2013-05-23T07:06:14","date_gmt":"2013-05-23T11:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=18329"},"modified":"2013-05-23T07:06:14","modified_gmt":"2013-05-23T11:06:14","slug":"pirelli-to-only-change-rear-tyres-for-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/pirelli-to-only-change-rear-tyres-for-canada\/","title":{"rendered":"Pirelli to only change rear tyres for Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The &#8216;T-word&#8217; was still the big topic of conversation as the F1 world congregated in Monaco on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignleft\" style=\"margin: 5px 10px;\" alt=\"Pirelli-P-Zero-Supersoft-RED-4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2013-rif-images\/f1-2013-Pirelli-tyre\/Pirelli-P-Zero-Supersoft-RED-4.jpg\" width=\"384\" height=\"256\" \/>But the big paddock whisper is that changes to Pirelli&#8217;s 2013 tyres will be only minor in Montreal next month and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>According to the strong and widespread rumour, the only minor change will be to the rear tyres &#8212; which is good news for Ferrari and Lotus, and not-so-good for Mercedes and Red Bull.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Anything else would be unfair,&#8221; Lotus&#8217; Kimi Raikkonen is quoted by Auto Motor und Sport.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You can&#8217;t change everything just because some teams can&#8217;t cope with the tyres.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can live with the idea of stronger rear tyres.\u00a0 I think that will help everybody.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Finn is also quoted by MTV3 broadcaster: &#8220;The fairest thing would be to continue with the current tyres, but I know there is a lot of pressure to change something.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It is believed teams will learn more about the rear tyre tweak on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, the issue continues to divide the paddock.\u00a0 Ferrari&#8217;s Fernando Alonso said Red Bull&#8217;s complaining is just sour grapes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It sometimes happens when you win too easily for some years, it&#8217;s difficult to lose some races after,&#8221; he told English-language reporters.<\/p>\n<p>In his native Spanish tongue, however, Alonso was even more blunt.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I believe this year we are seeing that they (Red Bull) are not all angels.\u00a0 We saw it in Malaysia and now with these statements.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When you win in an easy way for a few years, you can forget how to lose,&#8221; the Spaniard added.<\/p>\n<p>At the very same time, Red Bull&#8217;s world champion Sebastian Vettel continued to boldly criticise the Pirelli situation.<\/p>\n<p>He is quoted by SID news agency: &#8220;It&#8217;s like a professional skier having to change for the following season to wooden skis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t want to speak ill of people,&#8221; added Vettel, &#8220;but in this context they (Pirelli) need to do a better job.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have seen repeatedly that the surface of the tyre comes off.\u00a0 This is because they are not good enough.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He is quoted by Italy&#8217;s Autosprint: &#8220;None of us want our tread to come off in the tunnel.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, Vettel rejects the idea that Red Bull is complaining more than any other team.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think you (journalists) would rather quote us than Marussia for example.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But in the driver meetings I even hear Lotus complain that they have the same problem as us, but less extremely.\u00a0 So we&#8217;re not the only ones complaining,&#8221; the German added.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The &#8216;T-word&#8217; was still the big topic of conversation as the F1 world congregated in Monaco on Wednesday.
