Three-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves has slammed formula one for being “all politics”.<\/p>\n
“F1?\u00a0 It’s a bunch of politics,” he told Forbes magazine.\u00a0 “It’s all politics.<\/p>\n
“Every sport has politics, but it’s so bad.\u00a0 Who you know, who you contact — that’s what it’s all about.<\/p>\n
“They don’t care if you are good,” said the Brazilian.\u00a0 “They don’t care if you are a great person.\u00a0 It feels like Hollywood business.\u00a0 But that’s exactly what it is.”<\/p>\n
The 38-year-old Indycar driver said that, of F1’s 24 current drivers, he also respects five.<\/p>\n
“I think Alonso, Felipe Massa is a friend of mine, Schumacher.\u00a0 Schumacher is not racing anymore, but … I think Lou..eh, no.\u00a0 I would say Sebastian Vettel.\u00a0 Even Mark Webber.\u00a0 He is a good driver,” he said.<\/p>\n
“That’s it.\u00a0 The rest of it is just prima donna drivers and spoiled kids.”<\/p>\n
Castroneves insists his opinion about F1 is not because he was never given a chance to succeed at the pinnacle of motor sport.<\/p>\n
“I did get a chance,” he said, “but I respect much more what Roger (Penske) did to me.\u00a0 Loyalty and what an incredible team that I wouldn’t even think about changing.”<\/p>\n
