{"id":18500,"date":"2013-06-11T07:29:55","date_gmt":"2013-06-11T11:29:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=18500"},"modified":"2013-06-11T07:29:55","modified_gmt":"2013-06-11T11:29:55","slug":"button-writes-of-2013-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/button-writes-of-2013-title\/","title":{"rendered":"Button writes of 2013 title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hot on the heels of his downbeat assessment of McLaren&#8217;s performance in Canada, Jenson Button has now written off the 2013 title.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignright\" style=\"margin: 5px 10px;\" alt=\"Jenson-Button-3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2013-rif-images\/f1-2013-drivers\/Jenson-Button-3.jpg\" width=\"384\" height=\"256\" \/>The great British team&#8217;s lead driver said after failing to score points in Montreal that, seven races into the troubled development of the MP4-28, the gap to the front of the field remains &#8220;massive&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Button has now told British newspapers: &#8220;We&#8217;re so far behind, we&#8217;re never going to win the championship this year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, with 12 races to go in 2013, Button is already more than 100 points behind in the drivers&#8217; standings.<\/p>\n<p>The obvious temptation for a heavily-resourced team like McLaren would be to now switch all of its focus towards the radical new regulations and an all-new, V6-powered car for 2014.<\/p>\n<p>But Button suggested the Woking based team is determined to improve in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can still win grands prix,&#8221; he said, even though he ruled out a podium for his home British grand prix, next time out at Silverstone later this month.<\/p>\n<p>As for how long the slump will last, the 33-year-old admitted: &#8220;No one knows the answer to that.\u00a0 It&#8217;s pointless for me to try and answer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hot on the heels of his downbeat assessment of McLaren&#8217;s performance in Canada, Jenson Button has now written off the 2013 title.
