{"id":18598,"date":"2013-06-25T07:10:36","date_gmt":"2013-06-25T11:10:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=18598"},"modified":"2013-06-25T07:10:36","modified_gmt":"2013-06-25T11:10:36","slug":"michelin-not-ruling-out-f1-return","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/michelin-not-ruling-out-f1-return\/","title":{"rendered":"Michelin not ruling out F1 return"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michelin has not denied rumours it might be shaping up to succeed F1&#8217;s increasingly frustrated and out-of-favour official tyre supplier Pirelli.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, some reports have even hinted that the French company&#8217;s candidature is being championed by FIA president Jean Todt.<\/p>\n<p>But Pascal Couasnon, Michelin&#8217;s competition boss, said the marque would not consider returning to F1 simply to rescue the sport amid its Pirelli crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Asked, however, if he can categorically rule out coming back to the pinnacle of motor sport, he told Speed Week: &#8220;No.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We all live in the same world, and it is clear what formula one is in terms of visibility &#8212; in this area formula one is a long way ahead.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Also when it comes to technology, this (F1) could be extremely interesting,&#8221; added Couasnon.<\/p>\n<p>However, he insisted that Michelin would not simply decide &#8216;yes&#8217; and push ahead with an F1 foray.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would be willing to sit down and make some suggestions,&#8221; said Couasnon, indicating that Michelin would like to change some of the rules.<\/p>\n<p>Asked what he meant, he explained: &#8220;In terms of the type of tyres in terms of visibility, and what is the right mix for the spectacle and the challenge for tyre manufacturers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We might suggest, for example, to change the tyre dimension for formula one.\u00a0 Today in F1 there are 13 inch wheels, but that doesn&#8217;t interest us.\u00a0 18 inches is a whole other thing,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Couasnon also indicated that the current rules do not fit with F1&#8217;s moves to become more &#8216;green&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A tyre that lasts only seven laps is difficult to relate to the idea of &#8216;green&#8217;,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would only be interested (in F1) if we are able to have smart regulations in terms of the tyres.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is not enough to return as the &#8216;saviour&#8217; of formula one.\u00a0 If there is another way, then we could say &#8216;why not?'&#8221; added Couasnon.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michelin has not denied rumours it might be shaping up to succeed F1&#8217;s increasingly frustrated and out-of-favour official tyre supplier Pirelli.
