{"id":18639,"date":"2013-07-01T12:49:57","date_gmt":"2013-07-01T16:49:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=18639"},"modified":"2013-07-01T12:49:57","modified_gmt":"2013-07-01T16:49:57","slug":"australia-to-keep-season-opener-slot-in-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/australia-to-keep-season-opener-slot-in-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia to keep season opener slot in 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australia may retain the opening slot on the 2014 calendar.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, it was thought likely the sport&#8217;s highly-controversial Bahrain race could steal Melbourne&#8217;s thunder as the scene of next year&#8217;s championship opener.<\/p>\n<p>But Australian Grand Prix Corporation chairman Ron Walker was in London last week for talks with Bernie Ecclestone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will be the first race (in 2014),&#8221; Walker told the Australian Financial Review afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everything is going to plan for that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The situation was expected to be cleared up late last week, when the World Motor Sport Council met at Goodwood.<\/p>\n<p>But, unusually, a provisional calendar was not published.<\/p>\n<p>F1 chief executive Ecclestone, however, has backed his friend and ally Walker&#8217;s claim that Australia will still host the opening race next March.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No, we aren&#8217;t making Bahrain the first race next year,&#8221; the 82-year-old told F1 business journalist and Formula Money editor Christian Sylt last week.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think we will keep it as it is.\u00a0 It is just a rumour that it will change.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australia may retain the opening slot on the 2014 calendar.
