{"id":18673,"date":"2013-07-04T07:14:55","date_gmt":"2013-07-04T11:14:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=18673"},"modified":"2013-07-04T07:14:55","modified_gmt":"2013-07-04T11:14:55","slug":"nurburgrings-f1-future-after-2013-open-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/nurburgrings-f1-future-after-2013-open-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Nurburgring&#8217;s F1 future after 2013 &#8216;open&#8217; &#8211; report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The future of the Nurburgring&#8217;s formula one race beyond this weekend&#8217;s German grand prix is clouded.<\/p>\n<p>We reported last week that the event is only on this year&#8217;s calendar because Bernie Ecclestone waived his usual sanctioning fee &#8212; believed to be EUR 14 million.<\/p>\n<p>Track boss Karl-Josef Schmidt admitted on Wednesday to the German news agency DPA that the arrangements with Ecclestone for the 2013 race are &#8220;unique&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>But he said the reports of a EUR 14 million &#8216;gift&#8217; from Ecclestone are nonsense.<\/p>\n<p>The F1 chief executive took responsibility for &#8220;part&#8221; of the fee, &#8220;not the whole thing&#8221;, Schmidt clarified.<\/p>\n<p>For the race organisers, he added, 2013 is more about keeping the race at the Nurburgring &#8211; which is for sale &#8211; rather than making a profit.<\/p>\n<p>But beyond 2013, the Nurburgring&#8217;s future in F1 &#8220;remains open&#8221;, the DPA report concluded.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The future of the Nurburgring&#8217;s formula one race beyond this weekend&#8217;s German grand prix is clouded.
