{"id":19122,"date":"2013-08-30T07:30:20","date_gmt":"2013-08-30T11:30:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=19122"},"modified":"2013-08-30T07:30:20","modified_gmt":"2013-08-30T11:30:20","slug":"ecclestone-plays-down-michelin-return-reports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/ecclestone-plays-down-michelin-return-reports\/","title":{"rendered":"Ecclestone plays down Michelin return reports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bernie Ecclestone has moved to play down reports Michelin could replace Pirelli as F1&#8217;s official tyre supplier next year.<\/p>\n<p>At the height of the new Michelin rumours ahead of the Belgian grand prix, the sport&#8217;s chief executive admitted the French marque &#8220;do want to get back in&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But we have had contracts with Pirelli for some time,&#8221; he told Germany&#8217;s Auto Motor und Sport.<\/p>\n<p>Ecclestone was referring not only to Pirelli&#8217;s 2014 contracts with the organisation he leads &#8211; Formula One Management (FOM) &#8211; but also the vast bulk of the teams.<\/p>\n<p>But what about the crucial final contract, between Pirelli and F1&#8217;s governing body, the Jean Todt-led FIA?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They (the FIA) have nothing to do with the commercial side,&#8221; Ecclestone is now quoted by Brazil&#8217;s O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are the regulators, checking that the rules are being observed,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Ecclestone also played down suggestions the Michelin story is being powered by Frenchman Todt, the FIA president.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If the issue went to a vote of the World Council,&#8221; he said, &#8220;he (Todt) is entitled to one vote.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But as it&#8217;s not a matter subject to the World Council, it doesn&#8217;t make much difference anyway,&#8221; added Ecclestone.<\/p>\n<p>Austria&#8217;s APA news agency also quoted Ecclestone as saying &#8220;All the teams that have talked to me about it say they are very happy with Pirelli&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bernie Ecclestone has moved to play down reports Michelin could replace Pirelli as F1&#8217;s official tyre supplier next year.
