{"id":19360,"date":"2013-09-22T07:44:15","date_gmt":"2013-09-22T11:44:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=19360"},"modified":"2013-09-22T07:44:15","modified_gmt":"2013-09-22T11:44:15","slug":"raikkonen-injury-causes-paddock-tongues-to-wag","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/raikkonen-injury-causes-paddock-tongues-to-wag\/","title":{"rendered":"Raikkonen injury causes paddock tongues to wag"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is not surprising that news of Kimi Raikkonen&#8217;s back injury caused eyebrows to raise in the Singapore paddock.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignleft\" style=\"margin: 5px 10px;\" alt=\"Kimi-Raikkonen-8\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2013-rif-images\/f1-2013-drivers\/Kimi-Raikkonen-8.jpg\" width=\"384\" height=\"256\" \/>That&#8217;s because the news followed so hot on the heels of the Finn&#8217;s controversial revelation that he is only leaving Lotus for Ferrari next year because he has not been paid.<\/p>\n<p>And the common paddock perception is that Raikkonen&#8217;s &#8216;illness&#8217; that caused him to sit out Thursday&#8217;s proceedings at Spa recently was simply his lack of desire to attend.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Raikkonen qualifying 13th in Singapore, ten places behind Romain Grosjean, is apparently due to a pinched nerve in his back.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Perhaps he should pad his seat with wads of money?&#8221; one paddock cynic said mischievously late on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Sources insist, however, that the &#8216;iceman&#8217; really does have a painfully bad back.<\/p>\n<p>The official story, according to Germany&#8217;s Bild am Sonntag newspaper, is that the injury dates back to a huge backwards testing crash at Magny Cours in 2001.<\/p>\n<p>Correspondents Frank Schneider and Nicola Pohl have heard something different &#8212; Raikkonen hurt his back in an alcohol-fueled stumble on a staircase.<\/p>\n<p>A Lotus team member said without elaborating: &#8220;There was an incident.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is not surprising that news of Kimi Raikkonen&#8217;s back injury caused eyebrows to raise in the Singapore paddock.
