{"id":20557,"date":"2013-12-17T06:56:54","date_gmt":"2013-12-17T11:56:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=20557"},"modified":"2013-12-17T06:56:54","modified_gmt":"2013-12-17T11:56:54","slug":"improving-on-second-place-difficult-for-ferrari-todt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/improving-on-second-place-difficult-for-ferrari-todt\/","title":{"rendered":"Improving on second place &#8216;difficult&#8217; for Ferrari &#8211; Todt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Overcoming Red Bull for title spoils next year will be &#8220;difficult&#8221; for Ferrari, FIA president Jean Todt has warned.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignleft\" style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 5px 10px;\" alt=\"Jean-Todt-1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2013-rif-images\/f1-2013-persons\/Jean-Todt-1.jpg\" width=\"384\" height=\"256\" \/>Before the Stefano Domenicali era, Frenchman Todt oversaw Ferrari&#8217;s ultra-successful Michael Schumacher days, delivering a Red Bull-like period of domination with five consecutive championships until 2004.<\/p>\n<p>Kimi Raikkonen won the title in 2007, and Ferrari has come close to winning in subsequent years, but president Luca di Montezemolo this week admitted he is &#8220;sick of coming second&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hope that Ferrari do a good job,&#8221; Todt is quoted by Italy&#8217;s La Repubblica, when asked about 2014.\u00a0 &#8220;They have already done this in the past few years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Obviously being second is not the same thing as being first, but it is also really difficult to be second,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Todt was also asked about Bernie Ecclestone&#8217;s troubles, and the prospect that F1 could soon be needing a new &#8216;supremo&#8217; at the helm.<\/p>\n<p>The 67-year-old said he hopes Briton Ecclestone, 83, &#8220;stays in his place for many years&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I saw him (last) Monday,&#8221; Todt said.\u00a0 &#8220;He is in great shape, vibrant, motivated.\u00a0 Then we talk about what happens after Ecclestone?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;d rather focus on the present,&#8221; he insisted.<\/p>\n<p>Todt sidestepped any talk about the potential problems caused by the revolutionary new regulations, or the obviously urgent need to cut costs, answering: &#8220;I do not have a crystal ball&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He also didn&#8217;t want to talk about measures that were considered for 2014 but not adopted, such as mandatory two-pitstop grands prix.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I read a lot of proposals,&#8221; said Todt.\u00a0 &#8220;If I was to comment on everything that we read, we&#8217;d be here until tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The reality is that we have spoken about the tyres, but the regulations will not change next year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There will be tests next week in Bahrain, where I hope the right solutions will be developed.\u00a0 I am convinced that Pirelli has all the ability and the professionalism to do it,&#8221; he concluded.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Overcoming Red Bull for title spoils next year will be &#8220;difficult&#8221; for Ferrari, FIA president Jean Todt has warned.
