{"id":20635,"date":"2014-01-07T07:31:12","date_gmt":"2014-01-07T12:31:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=20635"},"modified":"2014-01-07T07:31:12","modified_gmt":"2014-01-07T12:31:12","slug":"relief-as-schumachers-condition-improves-reports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/relief-as-schumachers-condition-improves-reports\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Relief&#8217; as Schumacher&#8217;s condition improves &#8211; reports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nine days into his coma, positive news is finally emerging from the Michael Schumacher camp.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignright\" style=\"margin: 5px 10px;\" alt=\"Michael-Schumacher-1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2012-rif-images\/f1-12-drivers\/Michael-Schumacher-1.jpg\" width=\"384\" height=\"256\" \/>Multiple authoritative media sources, including major German news agencies and television broadcasters, cited the 45-year-old&#8217;s manager Sabine Kehm in reporting that Schumacher&#8217;s life is no longer in imminent danger.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a certain relief,&#8221; she is quoted by Spain&#8217;s El Mundo.\u00a0 &#8220;For the family, the situation is calmer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is the start of a long, long period, but thankfully less difficult now.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The most dangerous moment has passed,&#8221; added Kehm.<\/p>\n<p>The SID news agency, and the major German daily Bild, quoted an unnamed source close to the former Ferrari and Mercedes driver as confirming that there was indeed a &#8220;slight improvement&#8221; in Schumacher&#8217;s condition.<\/p>\n<p>Bild said it was a dramatic change from the unofficial news on Friday, when the seven time world champion &#8220;looked as though he had lost the fight for life&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A brain scan on Friday, the newspaper added, was &#8220;catastrophic&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;His condition is still critical,&#8221; Kehm was quoted by Sky Deutschland television, &#8220;however it has stabilised over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The danger to his life is no longer immediate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s La Gazzetta dello Sport quoted Kehm as saying the family had &#8220;heaved a sigh of relief&#8221; early this week.<\/p>\n<p>And a doctor treating Schumacher, Jean-Francois Payen, was quoted as saying: &#8220;While we emphasise that the danger has not yet passed, it is certainly no longer acute.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>RTL reporter Felix Gorner said: &#8220;Sabine Kehm has just told me on the phone that, for the first time, Michael Schumacher is no longer in imminent danger of death.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>An official statement issued by the treating hospital in Grenoble also sounded more positive than earlier bulletins.<\/p>\n<p>It said Schumacher&#8217;s &#8220;clinical state&#8221; is now &#8220;stable&#8221;.\u00a0 &#8220;However,&#8221; the statement added, &#8220;the medical team in charge of his care underlines that they continue to consider Michael&#8217;s condition as critical.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Later, Schumacher&#8217;s manager Kehm played down those reports that had quoted her as saying her boss&#8217; life is no longer in danger.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I cannot confirm any expressions that he is no longer in danger,&#8221; she said.\u00a0 &#8220;I refer you to the statement that was issued by the doctors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nine days into his coma, positive news is finally emerging from the Michael Schumacher camp.
