{"id":20736,"date":"2014-01-20T06:58:53","date_gmt":"2014-01-20T11:58:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=20736"},"modified":"2014-01-20T06:58:53","modified_gmt":"2014-01-20T11:58:53","slug":"caterham-set-for-kobayashi-ericsson-in-2014-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/caterham-set-for-kobayashi-ericsson-in-2014-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Caterham set for Kobayashi-Ericsson in 2014 &#8211; report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A returning Kamui Kobayashi looks set to join rookie Marcus Ericsson, marking a second consecutive all-new driver lineup for Caterham in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>We reported recently that, having lost his Sauber seat and spending 2013 racing a Ferrari sports car, the popular Japanese Kobayashi had moved into prime contention to return to formula one with Caterham this season.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s Autosprint reports that 27-year-old Kobayashi&#8217;s deal is now effectively done.<\/p>\n<p>Caterham is the last team in the 2014 pitlane to announce its race driver lineup, having competed last year with the all-new pairing of Giedo van der Garde and Charles Pic.<\/p>\n<p>Both were regarded as &#8216;pay drivers&#8217;, but the team admitted it missed the input of a more seasoned racer, even though Heikki Kovalainen looks to have missed out on his 2014 return.<\/p>\n<p>That is because Caterham, set to bank the comeback millions loyally pledged by Kobayashi&#8217;s fans, looks to be turning to a rookie to fill the second race seat this year.<\/p>\n<p>Autosprint correspondent Roberto Chinchero reports that 23-year-old Swede Marcus Ericsson, a GP2 driver for the past four years with mixed success, appears &#8220;increasingly likely&#8221; to make his F1 debut for Caterham in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Chinchero said Ericsson&#8217;s &#8220;financial support played a crucial role in the negotiations&#8221; with the Tony Fernandes-led backmarker.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A returning Kamui Kobayashi looks set to join rookie Marcus Ericsson, marking a second consecutive all-new driver lineup for Caterham in 2014.
