{"id":21780,"date":"2014-05-02T06:47:49","date_gmt":"2014-05-02T10:47:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=21780"},"modified":"2014-05-02T06:47:49","modified_gmt":"2014-05-02T10:47:49","slug":"mallya-adds-smirnoff-to-force-india-livery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/mallya-adds-smirnoff-to-force-india-livery\/","title":{"rendered":"Mallya adds &#8216;Smirnoff&#8217; to Force India livery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Force India has added a major new sponsor to the sidepods of its 2014 car.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2014-rif-images\/f1-2014-persons\/Vijay-Mallya-1.jpg\" alt=\"Vijay-Mallya-1\" width=\"430\" height=\"286\" \/>Last month, the Silverstone based team denied it is set to split with its title sponsor and co-owner Sahara, after the company&#8217;s jailed chief Subrata Roy was jailed for failing to pay refunds to investors.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the sidepods of the VJM07 were changed from orange to black, and the &#8216;Sahara&#8217; branding was initially removed before returning in China.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Force India has revealed it will replace the Sahara branding on the sidepods with the word &#8216;Smirnoff&#8217;, confirming a new sponsorship deal with the well-known vodka label.<\/p>\n<p>A team statement said Smirnoff logos will also appear on the rear wing and top of the chassis.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, Smirnoff is owned by the British alcohol multinational Diageo, who are bidding for full control of Force India owner Vijay Mallya&#8217;s spirits company United Spirits.<\/p>\n<p>Diageo already owns 29 per cent of Mallya&#8217;s company.<\/p>\n<p>The Hindustan Times newspaper explained that Diageo has recently been upping its presence in &#8220;emerging markets&#8221; like India, while Mallya is &#8220;burdened with huge debts&#8221; at his grounded airline Kingfisher.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Force India has added a major new sponsor to the sidepods of its 2014 car.
