{"id":21836,"date":"2014-05-08T06:47:15","date_gmt":"2014-05-08T10:47:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=21836"},"modified":"2014-05-08T06:47:15","modified_gmt":"2014-05-08T10:47:15","slug":"azerbaijan-replacing-axed-korea-ecclestone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/azerbaijan-replacing-axed-korea-ecclestone\/","title":{"rendered":"Azerbaijan replacing axed Korea &#8211; Ecclestone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Azerbaijan is taking Korea&#8217;s full-time place on the F1 calendar, Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2014-rif-images\/f1-2014-persons\/Bernie-Ecclestone-3.jpg\" alt=\"Bernie-Ecclestone-3\" width=\"476\" height=\"317\" \/>It is expected a city street race in the capital Baku starting in 2015 will be announced later this month.<\/p>\n<p>F1 chief executive Ecclestone this week indicated the oil-rich former Soviet race is taking the place on the calendar formerly occupied by South Korea, where a race at unpopular Yeongam was last held in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Korean organisers have baulked at the sport&#8217;s high sanctioning fees.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking this week to F1 business journalist Christian Sylt, Ecclestone said of the country: &#8220;I don&#8217;t want to go back there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Baku has been signed,&#8221; he told the Independent.\u00a0 &#8220;It will start in 2015 and will replace Korea.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They (Korea) did a good job with the track but what they forgot to do was build all the things they wanted to build,&#8221; said Ecclestone, referring to facilities around the harbourside circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Sylt claims that the Azerbaijan deal was brokered by Flavio Briatore, the ousted former Renault boss and close friend of Ecclestone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Briatore put the idea in the mind of the president of the country and that got things going,&#8221; a source is quoted as saying.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Azerbaijan is taking Korea&#8217;s full-time place on the F1 calendar, Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed.
