{"id":21934,"date":"2014-05-15T07:06:11","date_gmt":"2014-05-15T11:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=21934"},"modified":"2014-05-15T07:06:11","modified_gmt":"2014-05-15T11:06:11","slug":"megaphone-exhaust-didnt-work-rosberg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/megaphone-exhaust-didnt-work-rosberg\/","title":{"rendered":"Megaphone exhaust &#8216;didn&#8217;t work &#8211; Rosberg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>F1&#8217;s supposed &#8216;sound problem&#8217; is going back to the drawing board, following the track debut of the Mercedes &#8216;megaphone&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2014-rif-images\/f1-2014-drivers\/Nico-Rosberg-3.jpg\" alt=\"Nico-Rosberg-3\" width=\"431\" height=\"287\" \/>At the post-Spanish grand prix test in Barcelona on Wednesday, the exhaust of Nico Rosberg&#8217;s dominant W05 car was fitted with the trumpet-shaped attachment designed to turn up the volume of this year&#8217;s new turbo V6 engines.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It wasn&#8217;t a great solution,&#8221; Rosberg said afterwards in a video posted on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;trumpet&#8217;, which can be heard at https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=OAuupY65NcQ, was later removed from the silver car.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It just didn&#8217;t work,&#8221; Rosberg explained.\u00a0 &#8220;It didn&#8217;t make it much louder.\u00a0 So we&#8217;ll just have to look for another solution.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It is interesting that, after all the early-season complaints about the milder engine note of 2014, fans generally rebuked the look and sound of the &#8216;trumpet&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>One F1 fan told BBC correspondent Andrew Benson: &#8220;The notion of a special device attached to the cars purely to make more noise is so ridiculous it&#8217;s offensive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s an interesting moment in time for formula one,&#8221; Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Traditionally you would have said that formula one needs to be loud to be spectacular.\u00a0 Maybe now that&#8217;s changing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>FIA president Jean Todt said he agreed to look into noise solutions &#8211; it was the governing body that sanctioned Mercedes&#8217; running of the megaphone this week &#8211; following the widespread earlier complaints.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is a question of taste,&#8221; the Frenchman told the Telegraph last week.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t have any problem with the noise, but I need to take it into account if a lot of people say they want more noise.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But believe me, in a few months time, nobody will speak any more about the noise,&#8221; Todt added.<\/p>\n<p>A survey conducted by the German news agency SID found that 36 per cent of F1 fans declare that F1 is &#8220;less attractive&#8221; in 2014, while 45 per cent are just as interested in the pinnacle of motor sport as before.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>F1&#8217;s supposed &#8216;sound problem&#8217; is going back to the drawing board, following the track debut of the Mercedes &#8216;megaphone&#8217;.
