{"id":21948,"date":"2014-05-16T07:28:16","date_gmt":"2014-05-16T11:28:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=21948"},"modified":"2014-05-16T07:28:16","modified_gmt":"2014-05-16T11:28:16","slug":"lauda-furious-as-red-bull-drop-name-from-f1-circuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/lauda-furious-as-red-bull-drop-name-from-f1-circuit\/","title":{"rendered":"Lauda furious as Red Bull drop name from F1 circuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Niki Lauda has hit out at Red Bull for dropping his name from a corner at the returning Austrian grand prix venue.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2014-rif-images\/f1-2014-persons\/Niki-Lauda-1.jpg\" alt=\"Niki-Lauda-1\" width=\"413\" height=\"275\" \/>Now called the Red Bull Ring, the former A1-Ring was demolished and totally rebuilt by the energy drinks company, and next month it will host its first grand prix since 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the Red Bull takeover, one of the corners at the A1-Ring was called the Niki Lauda Kurve, in honour of the Austrian great and triple world champion.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the same corner has been renamed Pirelli.\u00a0 Also gone is the Gerhard Berger Kurve, replaced by Wurth, a German tool company.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m very disappointed,&#8221; Lauda told Kleine Zeitung newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I can only presume it is because I am now at Mercedes and we are beating Red Bull,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>So far, the Jochen Rindt Kurve &#8211; named after the posthumous 1970 world champion &#8211; has survived the Red Bull Ring&#8217;s search for sponsor dollars.<\/p>\n<p>But correspondent Gerald Pototschnig said even that corner could be renamed if a sponsor makes an attractive enough offer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As punishment,&#8221; the angry Lauda said, &#8220;Mercedes will be happy to celebrate a one-two in Spielberg.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Niki Lauda has hit out at Red Bull for dropping his name from a corner at the returning Austrian grand prix venue.
