{"id":22127,"date":"2014-06-02T06:50:32","date_gmt":"2014-06-02T10:50:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=22127"},"modified":"2014-06-02T06:50:32","modified_gmt":"2014-06-02T10:50:32","slug":"mercedes-says-honda-has-2015-advantage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/mercedes-says-honda-has-2015-advantage\/","title":{"rendered":"Mercedes says Honda has 2015 &#8216;advantage&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Honda has an advantage in being able to concentrate exclusively on 2015.<\/p>\n<p>That is the claim of Andy Cowell, who is the engine boss for F1&#8217;s dominant Mercedes team.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the German marque is fighting for title spoils against only Renault and Ferrari, but Japanese carmaker Honda is returning to the fray in 2015 as McLaren&#8217;s works partner.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are pros and cons (for Honda),&#8221; said Cowell.<\/p>\n<p>He is referring to the fact that Honda is missing from the grid in 2014, the very first season of the all-new turbo V6 era.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ferrari, Renault and Mercedes have the experience of winter testing and the grands prix this year,&#8221; Cowell told Germany&#8217;s Auto Motor und Sport.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know based on facts what the issues are and how to solve them.\u00a0 Honda can only watch,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On the other hand, we face a challenge in that we are continuing to develop the current engine in the context of what is allowed, and simultaneously we need to prepare for the 2015 homologation next February,&#8221; Cowell explained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So Honda has the advantage of being able to learn through photos and analysing the performance of the engines whilst concentrating fully on 2015,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are gaining knowledge free of charge, but not in the depth of the three (existing) manufacturers,&#8221; added Cowell.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Honda has an advantage in being able to concentrate exclusively on 2015.
