{"id":22342,"date":"2014-06-22T07:14:41","date_gmt":"2014-06-22T11:14:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=22342"},"modified":"2014-06-22T07:14:41","modified_gmt":"2014-06-22T11:14:41","slug":"austrias-place-on-stable-calendar-secure-ecclestone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/austrias-place-on-stable-calendar-secure-ecclestone\/","title":{"rendered":"Austria&#8217;s place on &#8216;stable&#8217; calendar secure &#8211; Ecclestone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Austria&#8217;s new place on the F1 calendar is secure, Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2014-rif-images\/f1-2014-persons\/Bernie-Ecclestone-3.jpg\" alt=\"Bernie-Ecclestone-3\" width=\"446\" height=\"297\" \/>After the A1-Ring last held a grand prix in 2003, Red Bull&#8217;s Dietrich Mateschitz bought the Spielberg venue and spent dozens of millions refurbishing it.<\/p>\n<p>As the &#8216;Red Bull Ring&#8217;, the race has returned in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Some traffic chaos aside, Austria&#8217;s return to the schedule has been warmly welcomed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People seem to like it here, which is very nice to see,&#8221; said the ultra low-profile Mateschitz, who is making a rare paddock appearance this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Even Niki Lauda, of Red Bull&#8217;s arch rivals Mercedes, admitted on Saturday he is happy to see F1 back in his native country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Didi (Mateschitz) has done a great job here,&#8221; said the triple world champion.<\/p>\n<p>So good that even F1&#8217;s chief executive is impressed. &#8220;It was important to have this race back,&#8221; Ecclestone is quoted by the German daily Bild.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s good for the region and for formula one.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper said the Red Bull Ring has a new contract with F1 that runs until 2020 &#8212; precisely the same length of Mateschitz&#8217;s commitment to the sport with the reigning world champion team Red Bull Racing.<\/p>\n<p>But Ecclestone said: &#8220;As long as Dietrich and I want it, the race will be here.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We plan our calendar for the long term,&#8221; the Briton is quoted by APA news agency.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need stability with regards to venues and dates,&#8221; Ecclestone explained. &#8220;In the next five years, the calendar will be relatively stable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It is not known what annual fee Mateschitz is paying to Ecclestone, but the 83-year-old admitted it is less than some of the newer venues on the calendar like Abu Dhabi or Sochi.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is a difference (between them) and the traditional races,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ecclestone said he is happy with the rejuvenation work at the Red Bull Ring. &#8220;The old track was not nearly as good as it is now,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s amazing what Dietrich has done here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ecclestone also said Austria is an important gateway for F1 to nearby &#8220;Slovenia and Croatia&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Austria&#8217;s new place on the F1 calendar is secure, Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed.
