{"id":22474,"date":"2014-07-05T07:12:42","date_gmt":"2014-07-05T11:12:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=22474"},"modified":"2014-07-05T07:12:42","modified_gmt":"2014-07-05T11:12:42","slug":"hay-fever-and-leaking-oil-spoil-hamilton-momentum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/hay-fever-and-leaking-oil-spoil-hamilton-momentum\/","title":{"rendered":"Hay fever and leaking oil spoil Hamilton momentum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More technical trouble is not the only thing on Lewis Hamilton&#8217;s mind at Silverstone.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-left alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/gallery\/f1-2014-rif-images\/f1-2014-drivers\/Lewis-Hamilton-3.jpg\" alt=\"Lewis-Hamilton-3\" width=\"442\" height=\"294\" \/>The 2008 world champion went into his home grand prix weekend determined to start clawing back some of the 29-point deficit to his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yes,&#8221; he sniffed to reporters, &#8220;the tables turned in Monaco and broke my momentum and he has had it for a few races.\u00a0 Now it is time to do the same thing the other way round.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But that was before he broke down with an oil leak during Friday practice, even though he still topped the times.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It happens,&#8221; said Hamilton, &#8220;but I don&#8217;t know why it happens to my car so much.\u00a0 I really needed that (session).\u00a0 I can&#8217;t keep stopping.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Also being addressed by Mercedes team management at Silverstone was the ever-growing divide between the &#8216;Hamilton camp&#8217; and the &#8216;Rosberg camp&#8217; as their title fight intensifies.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had a bit of a situation in one of the last races when we asked (the drivers) for feedback on the car,&#8221; boss Toto Wolff is quoted by the Mirror.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They said &#8216;Nope&#8217;.\u00a0 Anything you want to say?\u00a0 Nope.\u00a0 And when the meeting was over they plunged into detailed discussions with their engineers,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Wolff said the matter has been resolved.<\/p>\n<p>But Hamilton&#8217;s troubles do not even end there.\u00a0 During his media briefing at Silverstone, a team aide handed him a hay fever pill, as he is suffering with the pollen in the air around rural Northamptonshire.<\/p>\n<p>That alone, however, will not hold back his silver car.\u00a0 &#8220;If everything runs normally, Mercedes can do a one-two on every circuit,&#8221; Red Bull&#8217;s Sebastian Vettel said at Silverstone.<\/p>\n<p>Williams&#8217; Pat Symonds agrees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I can&#8217;t explain Austria,&#8221; he told Germany&#8217;s Auto Motor und Sport, referring<br \/>\nto Felipe Massa&#8217;s pole and the smaller than usual gap to the otherwise dominant Mercedes two weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I assume they (Mercedes) will be back here,&#8221; Symonds added.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More technical trouble is not the only thing on Lewis Hamilton&#8217;s mind at Silverstone.
