{"id":444,"date":"2009-08-30T21:23:25","date_gmt":"2009-08-31T02:23:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/racinginfocus.com\/rif\/?p=444"},"modified":"2010-01-03T18:40:13","modified_gmt":"2010-01-03T23:40:13","slug":"race-report-qualifying-risi-competizione-mosport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/alms\/race-report-qualifying-risi-competizione-mosport\/","title":{"rendered":"Race report Qualifying-Risi Competizione | Mosport"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">RISI&#8217;S QUALIFYING BID THWARTED BY CRASH AT MOSPORT | 29.08.2009<\/span><\/h5>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Risi Competizione is facing a fight against time to repair its Ferrari F430 GT for tomorrow\u2019s Grand Prix of <a title=\"Mosport International Raceway\" href=\"http:\/\/mosport.com\/home\/home.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Mosport<\/a> after a heavy crash in this afternoon\u2019s practice session.\u00a0 It was not able to take part in today\u2019s qualifying and will start the race from the back of the grid.<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p>After being quickest in the intensely competitive GT2 class in yesterday\u2019s Promoter\u2019s test session, the team was confidently looking forward to today\u2019s track time. \u00a0Fog, mist and rain hampered this morning\u2019s hour of practice, but the skies had cleared and the sun had even begun to show itself in time for the final hour of practice prior to the crucial 20-minute qualifying session. \u00a0 Pierre Kaffer set his fastest lap time of the session, placing him (at that time) at the top of the timesheets, and handed the wheel to team mate Jaime Melo for the second half of the session.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian was on his sixth lap, with 15 minutes still to run to the checkered flag, when he went off in Turn One causing extensive damage to the left side and rear of the car.\u00a0 While the Ferrari can be repaired here at the Mosport track, it will be a long night for the Risi Competizione mechanics. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had some understeer going into the corner,\u201d explained an uninjured <strong>Melo<\/strong>. \u201cI went off line, got onto the grass and then there was nothing I could do to stop the car before it hit the wall.\u00a0 I tried to keep the car on the grass to keep it straight but there is very little run-off here and unfortunately, with all the rain we\u2019ve had, the grass was very slippery.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pierre Kaffer<\/strong> had been enjoying a good weekend in Canada until the accident and, together with Melo, had worked on the Ferrari\u2019s set up to ensure a fast and well-balanced race car.\u00a0 \u201cThe car felt good,\u201d said the German.\u00a0 \u201cUnfortunately we now have to start from the back of the grid but this is racing. I am not angry or sad, but a little upset for the team and Ferrari as we were hoping to have a good result here.\u00a0 It could still happen, but it\u2019s going to be much more difficult to pass everyone from the back with our lack of speed.\u00a0 We will have to do our best and see what happens.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Risi Competizione is a Houston-based Ferrari racing team lead by Managing Director Giuseppe Risi.
