{"id":4701,"date":"2010-04-22T01:09:56","date_gmt":"2010-04-22T05:09:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=4701"},"modified":"2010-04-21T20:25:04","modified_gmt":"2010-04-22T00:25:04","slug":"porsche-doubles-up-in-long-beach-michelin%c2%ae-green-x%c2%ae-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/alms\/porsche-doubles-up-in-long-beach-michelin%c2%ae-green-x%c2%ae-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Porsche doubles up in Long Beach Michelin\u00ae Green X\u00ae Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The battles in the MICHELIN\u00ae GREEN X\u00ae Challenge were as close as on the fabled Long Beach circuit, but in the end, Porsche and a pair of northern California teams carried off both the GT and Prototype awards in America\u2019s premier environmental motorsports competition.<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Matching their performance here in 2009 by taking a hard fought victory on the track and a narrow win in the MICHELIN\u00ae GREEN X\u00ae Challenge, by going the furthest and fastest with the least environmental impact was the defending race and series champions, the Sonoma based <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lizardms.com\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>Flying Lizard<\/em><\/strong><\/a> Porsche.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is unbelievable for us to not only win the Long Beach race but the MICHELIN\u00ae GREEN X\u00ae Challenge, as well, by being both efficient and green,\u201d said Patrick Long, co-driver with Joerg Bergmeister of the GT category winning #45 Flying Lizard Porsche. \u201cWe are proud to be with a series, a manufacturer and team that wants to lead the fight to show that it can be cool to be green and fast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Their victory marked the 13th time in 24 awards that the MICHELIN\u00ae GREEN X\u00ae Challenge winning car also won its respective class in the race.<\/p>\n<p>Taking its first ever MICHELIN\u00ae GREEN X\u00ae Challenge award just one race after claiming the team\u2019s first American Le Mans Series class victory was the Benicia, CA based Muscle Milk Team Cytosport Porsche RS Spyder prototype team.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ABOUT THE <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michelingreenracing.com\/greenRacing\/index.jsp\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>MICHELIN\u00ae GREEN X\u00ae CHALLENGE<\/em><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> <\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nThe MICHELIN\u00ae GREEN X\u00ae Challenge, developed in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and SAE International is a race within the race at all 2010 American Le Mans Series events.<\/p>\n<p>All ALMS entries compete with E10 ethanol blended gasoline; E85R gasoline blended ethanol, GTL (natural gas to liquid) biodiesel, E10-electric hybrid power or Iso-butanol gasoline.<\/p>\n<p>Teams win by delivering the best overall performance, fuel efficiency, and smallest environmental impact throughout the race. Using a formula developed by the Argonne National Labs that includes over 30 different factors, real time standings are posted on timing and scoring screens throughout the race. The American Le Mans Series is the only series currently recognized as \u201cGreen Racing\u201d by the U. S. Department of Energy; Environmental Protection Agency and SAE International.<\/p>\n<p>The MICHELIN\u00ae GREEN X\u00ae Challenge trophies are presented to the respective Prototype and GT winners. The bases for the unique MICHELIN\u00ae GREEN X\u00ae Challenge trophies are made of rubber recycled from MICHELIN\u00ae GREEN X\u00ae labeled consumer tires.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nABOUT MICHELIN\u00ae GREEN X\u00ae TIRES <\/strong><br \/>\nMICHELIN\u00ae GREEN X\u00ae labeled consumer tires are optimized for fuel economy by reducing their rolling resistance and weight without compromising other key performance factors such as traction, grip and tread wear.
