Popular Brit outpaces Brabham for Friday Qualifying at Mazda Raceway<\/p>\n

Guy Smith gave Mazda power its first overall pole position on its home track Friday. Dyson Racing\u2019s popular Brit set a fast lap of 1:12.338 (111.377 mph) in qualifying for the American Le Mans Series Monterey presented by Tequila Patr\u00f3n. Smith outpaced Patr\u00f3n Highcroft Racing\u2019s David Brabham by 0.671 seconds for his first career pole position in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patr\u00f3n.<\/p>\n
It also is the first pole position for isobutanol, which is powering the Lola-Mazda coupe that Smith will drive in Saturday\u2019s six-hour race with Chris Dyson and Andy Meyrick. Smith was quickest in Friday\u2019s two practice sessions as the Dyson squad captured its first overall pole position since Butch Leitzinger\u2019s FQ at Portland in 2006.<\/p>\n
Three manufacturers filled the top three spots in LMP qualifying. After Brabham \u2013 who will drive PHR\u2019s HPD ARX-01c with Simon Pagenaud and Marino Franchitti \u2013 was Muscle Milk Team CytoSport\u2019s Klaus Graf at 1:13.855 (109.089 mph). He will drive his Porsche RS Spyder with Memo Gidley and Sascha Maassen.<\/p>\n
