Polesitter Marc-Antoine Camirand won the first of two races in the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Toyo Tires at Victoria Day SpeedFest at Mosport International Raceway.<\/p>\n
The Camirand Competition driver engaged in a spirited battle throughout the 30-minute heat race with 2009 Super Touring class champion Nick Wittmer who started next to Camirand on the front row. In the end, Camirand edged Wittmer\u2019s Lombardi Racing Honda Civic by 0.750 seconds for the win.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the first few laps it was pretty close. After that I got a couple of good laps and was able to pull the gap a little bit more, but it was a tough race,\u201d Camirand said.<\/p>\n
\u201c[Nick] was strong, he had a good car also. It was a tough race, so I\u2019m happy to be on top of the podium,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Dave Ciekiewicz started and finished third in ST in his Subaru WRX STi.<\/p>\n
In the Touring class, Anthony Rapone of Durabond\/Compass360 Racing won from the pole in his Honda Civic, edging out teammate Karl Thomson and the Octane Motorsport Mini Cooper of P.J. Groenke.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a lot of action going on behind me. I managed to get a really good start and got one of the back marker ST cars between me [and the Touring Car field], and just kept them behind me,\u201d Rapone said.<\/p>\n
The action at Mosport continues on Sunday, beginning with a final 30-minute warm-up session at 10:30 a.m. followed by a 30-minute feature race, scheduled to run from 2:15 p.m. \u2013 2:45 p.m.<\/p>\n
