{"id":6512,"date":"2010-06-23T19:21:36","date_gmt":"2010-06-23T23:21:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=6512"},"modified":"2010-06-24T07:23:49","modified_gmt":"2010-06-24T11:23:49","slug":"mclaren-confirms-new-exhaust-to-debut-in-britain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/mclaren-confirms-new-exhaust-to-debut-in-britain\/","title":{"rendered":"McLaren confirms new exhaust to debut in Britain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>McLaren on Wednesday confirmed reports a Red Bull-style exhaust layout will debut on the MP4-25 at Silverstone.<\/p>\n<p>Several teams are embarking upon a similar approach, with designers working to install low-mounted exhausts that allow air to flow more efficiently into the double diffuser.<\/p>\n<p>The benefit, with also the fast-moving exhaust fumes channelled through the diffuser, is believed to be up to half a second per lap.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll be doing trials at an aerodynamic test before Silverstone and hope to have it working on the practice sessions and race it on the Sunday,&#8221; engineering director Paddy Lowe told reporters during a teleconference.<\/p>\n<p>He admitted that the biggest challenge is equipping the suspension and bodywork to withstand being &#8220;blasted&#8221; by hot engine fumes, and rued that Ferrari has managed to have its version ready for this weekend&#8217;s Valencia race.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That is a concern,&#8221; answered Lowe when told Ferrari&#8217;s step forward could be half a second per lap.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll have to see how they get on with it.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a shame that some others have been slightly quicker than we were getting it, but we are where we are,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">\u00a9 RIF|GMM<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>McLaren on Wednesday confirmed reports a Red Bull-style exhaust layout will debut on the MP4-25 at Silverstone.
